I had work today from 8pm-12am. The day of Rock the Bells, the 1st concert I would have ever been to. I haven’t even been working for a month, so I thought it was a bad idea to request that day off or even try to switch shifts with someone.
The original plan was to still go to the concert, but leave at 6pm so that I could make it to work on time. We still would have got to watch Souls of Mischief, Common, Black Star, and Donald Glover because they all performed before 6.
So last night, my brother checked the set times again, but they changed. Donald Glover was performing at 8 instead of 3. I didn’t want my brothers to miss out on him because of me, so I decided not to go. My brothers would be able to stay and enjoy the whole concert. And I let my cousin have my ticket cause I didn’t want it to go to waste.
My parents were getting mad at me and calling me irresponsible because I paid for that $68.50 ticket but wasn’t going anymore. My punishment for choosing to go to work was to clean the the whole apartment.
I woke up today, accepting the fact that I was missing out on the concert I had been waiting all summer to see. I did my chores and was about to get ready for work when…
My assistant manager calls and says that the store has been slow all day so I wouldn’t need to come in for my closing shift.
On any other day, I would have been stoked to hear this. But why did it have to be today? After I cried about not going to the concert, after I gave my ticket away, after I got yelled at by my parents, why did my shift have to be cancelled today?
I’m bad luck.
